Memories
Woodwork memories!
I do remember well in my 5th year (15-16years old), Mr Baker, our woodwork teacher snatching the wood glue from Jason Lampard because he couldnt get the glue out to finish off his toybox, he was making. Jason seemed to be having trouble getting the glue out and the teacher was getting a little stressed. Unfortunately for Mr Baker, he shook the squeezy bottle so hard that the top flew off, splattering himself, Jason and his project with glue! Of cousre all us kids rolled about in laughter and in all the time I was there I never remember a teacher going so red with embarrasment! He was a great teacher though. Wonder where he is now?

Carpet Burns
One thing does just spring to mind and i don't quite know why!!
I remeber that in the library the really bad carpet. We used to drag our feet around to pick up static electicity and then go up to unsuspecting 1st year and electricute them in the back of the neck!! God how sad was that. I'll post more memories as i think of them not quite so sad as that one mind!!

Miss Sabbott
Does anyone remember the music teacher that was supposed to star in the Playboy magazine? I think her name was Miss Sabbott? Or something like that. She had long blonde hair and long, long legs!! When we questioned her about it, she had the habit of going bright red, god, no wonder there was a rush to the front seats!

Carpet Burns!
Funny, thats one of the things that I remember about Monty as well!! Detention if you were caught doing it. That and one of the french teachers with the scar on his cheek...don't remember his real name but we knew him as 'Bacon' ...also the name of some nasty torture where you grab some unsuspecting first years cheek and give it a twist....Ouch!!!!
Christian Cole (1980-1985)
Technical wizardry
Old BBC machines that were cutting edge at the time. Seem to remember a Sinclair C5 three wheel car crawling up and down the drive around the time also!
ZX spectrum exploded on the scene along with Rubik cube and snake.
Mr Gould (maths) was always good value. One of the pioneers of the hair transplant, remember him having it done, looked painful.
Used to tell us stories of belly dancers in Egypt picking up coins from the edge of tables with certain parts of their anatomy. As boys were boys, they used to warm the coin with a lighter.

Tunnels
I left in 1985 and remember many of the teachers that are on the site. Mr Beacham was legendary and I enjoyed some of his climbing trips to Dancing Ledge. I was in the tutor group of both Mr Riley, sorry to hear of his passing and Mr Smith who was a legendary hockey player, climber etc who died on the hockey field.
I was house captain of School House. The blue stripe round my sleeve was so important!!!
Mr Green (English Teacher) is now a vicar. I went to a funeral and he was in the pulpit!!!!
Stories I do remember are:
Exploring the tunnels under the school during one of the many teachers strikes.
Playing Knight Rider theme tune in one of Mr Maharris classes!
Mr Scutt getting a luger out in a german class,
Mr Higgins being hit by an egg in a french class one day.
Who was the teacher who ate extra strong mints all day was it Mr Gould?
Anthony McCrossan (1980-1985)
I taught Art at Monty in the early 70's with John Lennox, David Oliver and Tony Hole. It was a great way to start my teaching career, encouraged by Dennis Beacham and kept sane by Mike Brody and co in the House Masters room and I have many happy memories of my five years there. My facilities weren't always too hot and some boys may remember having Art in the dingy Garden Hut at the bottom of the rugby field. Luckily no-one realised how terrified I was of the huge resident spiders!
I had a lreally lovely tutor group who decided to make my day on April 1st by carrying my desk out to the middle of the rugby pitch and turning all the cupboards in the Art Room upside down. I think Brian, Colin, Mark, Jonathan and Jeremy may have been responsible! I would love to hear how all my group are all getting on in life. Maybe they all have mischievious teenagers too!
I am still in touch with Kathy Dixon who taught English at the same time.
My warmest regards to all staff and pupils who remember me. I still teach naughty-but-nice little boys as I am Head of Art at The Pilgrims School in Winchester.
