  1. Hi...to anyone who was at Montgomery from 1970 to 1975. Marvellous memories. Really had forgotten what some of the teachers looked liked. Then, it came flooding back when I saw the photos on here! I have visited what's left of the school three times this decade - love going back there; hope they never knock it down- pity about all the houses on the "playing fields". I started in class 1HB, then 2(II), 3(II),

4 L-Z and 5 L-Z Who were you favorite teachers? Mine were Heather Brown, Mr Barnes, Mr Hewitt, Mrs Kirby. Does anyone remember those wonderful cherry brandy ice lollies that were sold near playing field/ bicycle sheds. Bye for now

  2. Hello. Was a pupil from 1965 to 1969. Would love to catch up with anyone who remembers me !

    Does any one remember me.

  7. Hi Peter I Do remember you and its a shame that a lot of the early boarders do not appear to have found this website.I know Andrew

Burroughs emigrated to Australia, I did email him through Friends reunited but have not had a reply.Joseph Nickolson is also on Friends

but I can only assume he has not reregistered as a member.

I did keep in touch with Mr hester after i left and the last time I spoke to him he was at aschool in the New Forest area.

If you want to touch base email me at grist278@btinternet .com or you can phone me direct on 01494812735.

You have got to admit Howard has done a fantastic job with the site

  8. Hi everyone. Glad to see people still submitting their comments. A couple of things, firstly I looked up and down the list of teachers

but couldnt see a mention of Mr Dimmer. He was my maths teacher in 67. Also I havent seen much feedback from the early boarders.

Whatever happened to Mr & Mrs Hester?

As for myself Ive semi retired and drive buses for Arriva, both my brothers who attended the school are doing fine. David has a

landscape gardening business in Nottinghamshire and Roger has done very well for himself and is a teacher in Germany. Keep up

the good work with the site.

  9. nicky, what is the facebook address????....cant seem to find anything on there...please reply with the relevant details...ta muchly...

  10. Rob, mate - if you want an attack of nostalgia nip over to Facebook - there are some pictures you need to see. We're waiting for ya!

  13. Hi

This is a bit of a long shot. Does anyone remember Meryl Brewer from Danemark days? She was a very tall girl who lived with her family in Dean, Sparsholt. We were married in 1971. Meryl died tragically in a road traffic accident in South Africa in 1977. She is buried in the Anglican Church in Parys. I would be grateful to hear from anyone who knew her.

    Many thanks

    John

  14. Hi all this is Paul lowe was at monty from 1981-1986 ive just been told about this site and about David trinder im in shock,

im so gutted i was great friends with David we always had a great laugh not just at monty but at olivers battery pimary school to,

i remember going to his house to play as a young child and being together at monty,

he was a great friend and a good laugh.

if some one has contact with his parents could they please give my condolences,

it would be much appriciated thank you.

its a sad loss he will be missed.

ps if any of my old school mates want to im on facebook feel free to add me.

  15. Hi All! Sorry the site has been down a few days where I was moving the domain host, all should be working ok now!

    HB

  16. Great site! Brings back memories of '84 - '87 when I boarded at Sarum House (which is still there!), although now separated by a housing estate whereas it used to be at the bottom of the sports field. I visited Monty about 4-5 years ago and had a good walk round but didnt have a camera so the pictures on here will serve as a permanent reminder. Many thanks!

  17. I was at Monty from 72 to 77 as well. Don't remember Mr. Bond though. Too bad you had such a miserable time. Sure, we all tend to look back at things through rose tinted glasses, and I'm sure it's no different with Monty. However, I do believe it was a pretty good school and most folks fond memories of the place are genuine.

  18. To James Bond: in many ways it is nice for someone to create such a website, particularly if they had a good time at school, it is also a way of old friends to make contact. I have been in contact with a few people that I used to go to Danemark with back in the early 1970's and is it great to hear how they are. I remember you in fact! and I hope you are well. Regards

  19. Thank you Howard for the kind words about David 'I will tell his mum about the web site ,she will be touched .

  20. Well I never, Was at Montys from 71-75 with my 2 brothers Ronny and Tony at Boarding school ( Mr Hester and wife) remember them all

teachers the school the girl school the dell, those where the days ........nice to here from you all.. well i never

  21. Thanks for the feed back 007, but if you hated the school so much, how come you came to visit the site? Anyway best of luck your secret missions, spygod.

    Howard

  22. You must be a boring sad git to want to create a website about Montgomery of Alamein school have you got anything better to do.I

was there from 1972 to 1977 and hated the place

  23. Yep, Mike Brodie taught biology. He got married and went to New Zealand for a while, living in Wellington.

I think he was in the Paras and definitely served in Malaya with the Gurkas. Last time we heard of him they were living in Scotland, but it's been a while now.

  24. For all the lads from 1986 David Trinder died at the end of may .David was a lovely guy ,he was in my tutor group mr jarvis .David was only 38 and he had a tumor behind his eye which eventualy killed him .David was a quiet lad who kept away from the limelight so you may not of known him but for those who did we will mis you Dave.

  25. Paul Shergold.

I missed the reunion and can only hope there will be another one. Great work on this site tho, the memories came flooding back and not all good ones , but there where some great ones. Did you know there where tunnels under the school ? we used to bunk lessons and mess about in them. they start under the stage then go on down to the science blocks then turned towards the R.E. block and finished at the kitchens. As i said good times and bad , you can only get hit with a trainer, ruler or cane so many times before you loose interest in learning. I was a bully at school and for that i am sorry ,i was also bullied as this is the way with monty a pecking order. We all grow up and find our mark in life and i have found mine with some large hurdles to jump but i got there in the end and can only hope you have all found yours. Paul.

  26. wow, a great read on your reunion etc! lots of names popped up - i didnt enjoy my time at the school so didnt want to go, but hey reading it i might attend another one. anyway, i married daryll kirley who im sure some you remember?

unless you were popular at school i think you imagine no one will remember you - so, does anyone remember me????

  27. Hi everyone. What a site well done howard. I found it by chance and was engrossed by some of the comments and found not just myself but one of my brothers in the photos. I was saddened to hear that Mr Beacham and Mr S Payne has passed away. I was in Mr Payne's class and also boarded at Sarum House, 1967 to 70/71. Prior to atten ding monty school I attended a very rough school in Darlington, Co Durham which was full of bullies and dinner ladies stood over you forc ing you to eat spotty dick pudding and thick custard (which I dont eat to this day) so remarks that the school was full of bullies and austere are unfair . However I do remember meals and conditions getting better as time went on. b For Howard. The photo of Sarum House boarders 1967 I can confirm that it is Mrs Hester on the left. The lady on the right was the cook she may have been Mrs Blackett but I cant be sure. The child on her knee is Mr & Mrs Hesters son Marcus. I am stood at the back row second to last on the right. I will send a message soon as to what me and my two brothers are up to nowadays, in the meanwhile the very best to you all and hello to the girls from Danemark School, remember lunchtime meets on the playing fields and school discos?

  28. Hi all! Thanks for posting comments on the site, good and bad, Thanks for your comments Mike, I agree with you that it wasnt all rosey but there were a lot of good times too, I personally will not forget a lot of friends from school of whom I still bump into month to month.

Im not sure I agree with you about the teachers hating the kids and vice versa, There were some great teachers and monty and the bullys were few and far between and anyhow it was all a long time ago now and kids that were once bullies had hard lessons out in the outside world and most of the ones Ive met have matured into nice people.

    Thanks again,

    Howard

  29. I remember both Mr. Brodie and Arthur Newton.

Brodie taught Biology, I think. I remember him as a large imposing figure with a crew cut (ex para if the rumours were correct) who you didn't dare mess about with.

Arthur Newton taught music. I remember him auditioning pupils from his classes for the school choir. Always managed to say something positive even if you did sound like a frog croaking at dusk.

  30. It was good see the photographs of the teachers from my school days. Does anyone remember Mr. Brodie? I don't recall seeing a photograph of him.

Thought I would let everyone one know That Mr Arthur Newton was tragically killed in a road traffic accident in the late 70's might have been in the early 80's.

  31. it saddens me to find so many ex pupils painting such a rosy picture of montgomery. my memories are ones of dismay , the teachers didnt like the kids, the kids didnt like the teachers. we had cold classrooms and poor equipment not to mention sadistic bullies, with whom you could only play at their own game.good memories i dont think so!! later mike

  32. Hello.

Seems I just missed the reunion in November 2007. Well, though I don't live in Winchester anymore, London's not far away, so you never know. Maybe I'll be at the next event...

My potted history for anyone who's interested. After Monty (76-80), I spent 80-82 at Peter Symonds wondering what it would be like to study for a degree. I had such a good time doing just that (London, 82-85) that I stayed on for another three years (85-88), finally joining the world of work as a research chemist (88-98) in Oxfordshire, before changing career (and going back to uni for another year -- I had to pay for it that time). Since 1998 I've been working in the IT industry, living in London, and playing the clarinet occasionally.

I never thought of myself as a swat until, writing that paragraph, I realized I've spent 13 years in one form of education or another! Five of them were at Monty. They were good years.

  33. Hi All! Good to hear from Ian Cottingham and Martin Hanks, I hope you are both well and will look forward to seeing you all in the near future. Best wishes to all and hope you all have a great 2008.

    HB

  34. Hi Howard,Sorry missed reuinon, would be interested in the summer ball if it happens.Hope everyone had a great christmas and a happy new year.Martin Hanks

  35. Hi everyone,

Just thought i would pop on to say Happy Christmas to everyone on this site. Have a great time and get drunk :)

  36. I am really sorry that I could not make it back across the pond, especially as everyone's had such a great time.

If you are planning anymore in the future, please let me know, I should be in a better position to get over.

    Iain Michael Cottingham.

  37. Hi Howard, Top night, I had a great time. It was great to see so many people that I haven't seen for years. I was able to introduce my husband to the rebates that I went to school with. It was great seeing Tracie again.Lots of faces I recognised but could not put a name to. Look forward to the next do. Your hard work was most appreciated and worth while.

    Angela Twine (nee Harron)

  38. As one of the few VERY old boys [1968-73) can I just add my appreciation to Howard for organising such a great evening. Sadly very few of our generation were apparent but I have never seen so many middle aged men looking each other up and down looking for a sign of recognition!! My distant memories include a VERY long piece of tape in the corridor by the main hall showing the distance of the new long jump world record set by Bob Beaman at the 1968 Olympics to which we all aspired but sadly could not surpass despite various PE masters attempts. Can't even walk that far these days without breaking sweat!! Also listening to the first moon landing on the radio in an English class taken by Alistair Thomson, who for me, was the most enlightened teacher you could wish to meet. Due to him, "One small step for Man" was live and not a later recording. But as a wonderful and gentle soul from the Shetland Isles perhaps he was transfixed by the modern invention of radio!! It was fantastic to meet up with you again.

Binary classes above the dining hall when computers of the time were tape driven and and took up a whole floor. Probably had the capacity of an early hand held calculator.! Slide rules were the order of the day and my best mate Jonathan George (from Primary school years) was the king in that regard. Luckily he always let me copy his homework which kept me in "Josh" Bones's set and prevented me from being a TOTAL disappointment to my parents. Dennis Beacham was less forgiving. One year in his History class generated the following Report comment : " Not the bright boy I thought I was getting. Disinterested in class. Appears bored and bores me." Classic!!!

Does anyone else remember the educational trips on the SS Uganda or SS Nevada that we went on on with Bob Ellis? No fears of prosecution or "risk assessment" in those days. Just unadulterated fun.

Thank you Howard for the memories. Thank you Alistair for your mentoring. Thank you Dennis for your acerbic wit and thank you

Jonathan for 46 years of freindship.

  39. Hi all, thanks to the extremely nice comments by you all! Really amazing to see all those old faces from the past! Wonderful to see Mr Starkie, Heather Riley, Brian Green, Peter Middleton, Neil Birkett, Roland Higgins, Les Slayford, Geoff Scutt, David Barnes, Alastair Thompson, Tony Thomson, John Maharris, Tim Jarvis, Phil Huddart and Graham Topping. If i've missed any teachers off then I do apologise.

Bob Ellis sent his best wishes , he could not make it because his wife is very ill, same goes for John Lennox.

I think it worked out to be a really great tribute to Dennis Beacham.

Fantastic to see all the ex pupils too, Big thank you to Wrattlewreck and Tim Hoare at the Golden Lion for coping under a huge wodge of thirsty people! About a hundred more than expected!

Also big thanks to Steve Russell, the site manager at Kings.

Well, this is me signing off for a winter break now but fear not.......Im thinking of arranging something else in the Summer of 2008 or maybe 2009.

A Summer ball has been mentioned by more than one person, Depending on people we could make it even bigger and better than before! A mixture of 70's and 80's music maybe good to wash it down with...

If any of you are interesting in getting together again for another event next year, please email me...howardblake712@hotmail.com

    Bye for now...

  40. Friday night was a night I won't forget for a long while. I didn't think there was many people from my year, but speaking to others since and reading the guest book, it seems there was more there than I thought, its a shame I did see them, (but that goes to show how many people where there), however it was great catching up with the ones I did.

Well done Howard, heres to the next one!!!!

  41. It was a great night and really good fun to see everyone. It was brill to see friends that I hadnt heard from since I left school. Stay in touch guys! My email is saffronishere2001@yahoo.co.uk and I am on Facebook! Thanks for the tip Vicki about faceparty!

Shame on all of you guys who never came to the reunion- you missed a good night. Kathryn Boler, Kate Little and Victoria Payne, you have been named and shamed.

My highlight was meeting up with an old flameXX

    Saffron

  42. hi Howard well what a fantastic evening catching up with old friends alan larman james grey shorty, everywhere we looked there were faces from the past teachers included.the highlight for me was seeing larman and tim jarvis but the whole night was great well done howard roll on the next one Darren

  43. Howard - Friday night was a stroke of genius my friend. Like the movie Field of Dreams, 'build it and they will come' !!!

Had a great time, and had to extend it into the wee small hours back in town to catch up with all the old faces.

From the band, I'd like to apologise for the volume. The acoustics of a big hall like that can be difficult to balance, especially if there are no bodies at the front to soak up the sound. So I hope we didn't impair the enjoyment of your evening too much, and for the 3 people who shouted for more, sorry to disappoint you ;o)

    Here's to next year

    Steve

  44. Hello Howard,

I just happened to be visiting from West Yorkshire, and was able to attend. My brother alerted me to your excellent site.

Thanks for a fantastic evening, it was really great to see so many people at the reunion, having such a good time. We even managed to have our own little Owslebury Primary reunion! It was lovely to see yourself, Kerry and Adam, Aron Reed, Andy Comley, Anna Mort (nee Russell), Jason Parsons, and Steve Newell. We had such a laugh! We even found out who filled Pete Newell's wellies with water at Primary school....

I think Adie Mort and Mike Mordecai (he hasn't altered a bit!) were the only others from '86 leaving year I managed to recognise and speak to, as the evening went by so fast. I don't think the caretaker was too happy at the end though....oops! Didn't like working late I guess.

I saw many familiar faces wandering around, but couldn't put a name to them....I sometimes have trouble remembering someone I met the week before. We are all 20yrs older after all! Anyone who recognised me and didn't get the chance to say hello, please feel free to message me. It was nice to speak to Mr Huddart and Mr Barnes, was going to find a board rubber to throw at Mr Scutt, but thought better of it. I did intende to speak to several people, only to find they had left.

Thanks Howard, credit to you mate for taking the trouble to arrange it!

    Colin Rhyder.

  45. The reunion was a fixture in my diary that nothing would shift. But something (work) did get in the way, and I am/was very sorry indeed to to have attended what looks like a terrific event. If anyone who was part of the entrance year in September 1966 (1a?!) onwards I'd be thrilled to hear from them.

    Chris Hutchison

  46. Forgot to say ..... what a laugh it was to see so many of the Stanmore Crowd in the Stanmore Hotel before going up to the school..........was a great night Amber xx

  47. Hiya Everyone, Thanks to everyone that I caught up with, it was a great laugh...For me what was so cool was seeing so many of the STANMORE GANG!! Yeah, theres no denying Im a Stanmore girl...but Im proud of it and it was great seeing so many people like Nic, Sara (Jade) that I remember from days growing up in Stanmore but havent seen in yonks!! I went with (Waggy) Lee Waggstaffe, Alan Larman (who I hadnt seen since I was 15!!) and one of my best mates from school Lisa Pond......I dont see Lis so much now shes moved away from Winch and it was top to hang out with her that night. Funny how some things never change and we were exactly the same together as when we were when we hit the town at 15!! yep, we did manage to sneak in the pubs at that age back then......so apologies for our behavior later on in Greens hee hee.......Sorry my mate Joanne Butler couldnt be there as shes now living in the States and also Andrea Matthews who was in Wales that weekend.

Anyway thanks to Howard for all his hard work setting it all up and the website too..........One last thing .........WHO WAS IT that Nic had wanted to see since he was 16???????? Wish I had known I would have got it out of him on the night!!!!!

Many thanks again Howard .....Amber :-)

  48. I forgot to say how nice it was to see the lovely ladies Kim Banwell ,Clare Burns ,Jackie Mace,Teresa Dade, and the gorgeous Clare Beaumont ;that will make the wife jealous.I would like to say how lovely you all looked especially my wife Haley [ just in case she reads this] ALL MY LOVE Jason send in your photos to Howard

  49. Thanks Howard for a fantastic reunion...You are a Star! Had a great time catching up with, not only Danemark girls, but the old Stanmore crowd... Shame the evening had to end. xx

  50. Well done Howard! Well we all waited nearly 2 years for this to happen and it went off well. One of the best nights i have had. It was nice to see some "old" faces on Friday night, many who have not changed one bit. It was great to see Alan Larman and John Ewing, of course there was Bowlsie, Jason Lampard , Claire Burns, Saffon, Amber and many more that i knew well. It was strange to see that many of the teachers have not aged one bit, i mean, Mr Hudartt is still as i remembered him. It was nice to see Mr Starkie there, and also Mrs Riley. I cannot believe we left over 20 years ago! I just hope that most people can stay in touch with each other, because as Jason Lampard has posted here "We may never see each other again". I did not have much chance to exchange email or phone numbers, so if anyone would like to get in touch with me, here is my details: nic.bridge@btinternet.com or my website with my phone numbers on is: www.nsbdecorators.co.uk Please try to stay in touch with each other, remember you spent 5 years together and all the fun you had must never be forgoton. One last note, i managed to meet someone who i have wanted to see since i was 16! So i was more than made up, and this made the evening even more rewarding.

Take care people, and please get in touch with me soon :)

    Nic.

  51. Howard well done mate it was a great evening you should be proud of your achievement .I couldn't believe how far people have gone to live .I've always stayed local and wondered where people had gone and know i know.It was great to see mr Jarvis and mr Thompson [english]they were two of my favorite teachers mr T is such a gentleman. We all went wondering if people would remember us and it felt great when people said your name without a prompt maybe it was because I was the most popular boy in our year so every one kept telling me when they walked off.I wish i could of had longer chats with certain people such as John Ewing ;Paul Farley,Alan Larman,Rich Schofield,Mike Mordecai and John Hancock.I can E mail certain ones but i would like it if they could mail me.especially Paul Farley I had forgotten what a funny guy he was.The sad thing is [PEOPLE] we may never see each other again so try and keep in touch . Anyway I've said my bit All the BREAST Jason Lampard of MC Lampard and sons LTD Builders Winchester your freindly local builder

  52. It would have been fun to attend the reunion but some 5,000 miles and other commitments make it impossible. My best wishes to all the Monty and Danemark alumni and particularly those pupils and staff who were at Monty from 1972 to 1977 who might remember me. I hope you all have a terrific evening.

  56. Hiya Howard, Ive finally sorted buying my tickets!! The website is great and Im looking forward to the night. A good friend of mine Joanne Butler wishes she could make it but lives in America so wont be able to. Ive had a message that Joanne Davies will be there and I cant wait to catch up with her. Ive sent you one of my class photos from 1985!! MY HAIR!! what was I like?? lol...Well I was into the Human League back then hee hee and of course it was the 80s.........I looked through the list of teachers and laughed ..Im not sure any will be over keen to say hiya to me as unfortunately I was one of the naughty kids who spent most of the lessons (esp with Mr.Atwood) sent to stand outside in the corridor!! heath, my bruv was also no angel... but was much better at not getting caught , much to his delight when weve spoken about school days years on!! Hope to say hello to you on the night , With Thanks Howard......Amber.

  57. The memories are just flooding back, had such a laugh, only chose woodwork as a subject so I could go over to Monty as I knew I would be in the classroom next to Stu!.... and I only managed to make a bowl I tell you, so you wont be surprised to know that I didn't go into carpentry when I left school.....love the school photo of my year and looking forward to seeing some old faces.....

    mark russell

  59. BTW my email is nick@gotrobots.com if anyone remembers me and wants to say hi - and a big thanks to Howard for this great site - many fond memories. I remember that egg flying in the window of our French class and hitting Mr. Higgins! Chortle.
  60. I'm sorry I won't be able to make it to the reunion as I'm living in California building the next generation of cleaning robots (though right now I'm sitting in the factory in China and it's HOT!) I hope you all have a great time at the reunion as I know all you Monties (and Danies) can... cheers, n. Nick Donaldson San Francisco, CA 1980-1985
  61. Looking forward to the reunion. I have seen a few friends names on the list, although whether we will recognise each other is questionable! I shall wear a name badge, after all it has been over 30 years. I do hope that some of the Danemark teachers will make it too. Apparently some came to the last Danemark reunion for our year. Unfortunately I had not joined at that time so missed it. I wonder if any Danemark girls still have the school photo taken in about 1969. I had one, but lost it years ago. Do the schools keep the negatives? I hope someone will be able to post more pictures on the Danemark FR site.
  62. Hay all i have just been looking at the site and Christ its brought back some memory's.
